Is the Green Bay Packers' 2024 roster a finished product?
At 4-2, the Packers have a lot going in their favor. Starting quarterback Jordan Love seems to be fully recovered from his Week 1 injury scare and has the offense whirring, while the defense, which has been inconsistent at times, has played fantastic football the past two weeks.
The Packers hope to be Super Bowl contenders, so in a way, their season has played out the way they needed it to through six weeks. If there is room to improve, though, it could be one of the cornerback spots.
And if they're going to add anyone, it might as well be a future Hall of Famer. Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department urged the Packers to sign former Arizona Cardinals legend Patrick Peterson, most recently a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as a midseason pickup.
"Eric Stokes has been struggling this season. Pro Football Focus had Stokes on the hook for 20 completions on 28 targets (71.4 completion percentage) and a 118.9 passer rating when targeted for a 50.5 coverage grade through Week 5," the authors said.
"While Peterson is past his prime, he played well for the Steelers last season by recording a couple of interceptions and 11 passes defended. The 34-year-old stated at the beginning of the season on NFL Network's 'The Insiders' that he'd be willing to play for a contender, which the Packers are."
Peterson turned 34 in July, and has 13 terrific seasons under his belt. As the authors referenced, he was still a solid player last season, but he hasn't made a Pro Bowl since 2018. He's certainly under no obligation to return to the league.
With that said, the Packers definitely could use Peterson, assuming he's going to be in peak physical condition by the time the playoff push ramps up. There's also a lot to be said for adding a future Hall of Famer as a leadership presence in the locker room.
Green Bay's secondary could be truly intimidating if it pairs Peterson with Jaire Alexander and Xavier McKinney. But only time will tell if the Packers make the move.
