No matter how it unfolds, it's going to be an entertaining 2024 season for the Green Bay Packers.
After a 6-2 finish and a surprising playoff run a season ago, the Packers appear primed to compete for a conference championship this year. They extended quarterback Jordan Love, locking up the most important part of their team's future.
The Packers have also done a solid job surrounding Love with weapons on offense, particularly when considering the 2022 departure of superstar receiver Davante Adams.
It's a young receiving group in Green Bay, but it's a deep one, with a lot of versatile pieces. However, one National Football League writer believes that the Packers could look to add more star power to the mix via trade.
On Wednesday, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report listed the Packers as one of two possible trade destinations for Cleveland Browns receiver Amari Cooper, who came in at No. 10 on Knox's "trade block big board."
"Amari Cooper is the top receiver on the board based on talent and recent production," Knox said. "Cooper would be a solid get for a contender lacking a proven No. 1 receiver, like the Green Bay Packers."
Cooper would undeniably make the Packers better, but this deal isn't necessarily on the table now, Knox emphasized. But should the Browns fall out of contention, or see an opportunity to grab a star at a position they lack talent, it's easy to see Cooper becoming available.
Having turned 30 this offseason, Cooper is coming off his best year ever as a 10th-year veteran. He churned out a career-high 1,250 receiving yards despite inconsistent quarterback play, and set a franchise record with 265 yards in a single game against the Houston Texans.
If Cooper assumed the number-one role in Green Bay, it's possible he could elevate the talents of the rest of the Packers' receivers. Christian Watson (explosive play threat), Jayden Reed (speedy slot guy) and Romeo Doubs (sure-handed safety valve) could all become the best versions of themselves in the Green Bay offense.
Is it too early to speculate about a Packers-Cooper partnership? One could argue it's never too early given the increased player movement in the modern NFL. If the Browns see an advantage in moving the star wideout, they'll do so, and Green Bay could be in position to benefit.
