The Green Bay Packers have a lot to be excited about with the 2024 National Football League regular season now just about two weeks away.
Green Bay very well could be one of the top teams in the NFC but even it could use some more depth on offense. The Packers are loaded with young, playmakers but it could make some sense to bring in a veteran to help out.
One player who could make a lot of sense for the Packers is former New York Giants second-round draft pick Sterling Shepard. He spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this summer but was released on Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
"The Bucs have released veteran (wide receiver) Sterling Shepard, source said," Rapoport said. "The 31-year-old signed with hopes of rekindling his rapport with old teammate Baker Mayfield. And that may still happen. The team is holding a practice spot for him."
When Shepard has been healthy in his career, he has been dynamic at points. Injuries have significantly impacted his career, though. He appeared in just 10 games total across the 2021 and 2022 campaigns.
He appeared in 15 games last season but didn't have as big of a role with the Giants and had just 10 receptions. Shepard seems to be healthy now and could be a cheap option to add more depth on the offensive side of the football.
Green Bay certainly could afford him and it wouldn't hurt to bring him in. At this point, why not take a flier on him?
