The Green Bay Packers were humbled by their division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, on Sunday. The Packers lost at home 31-29 after falling behind 28-0 early.
In the loss, Packers wide receiver Christian Watson sustained an ugly ankle injury.
During the first half, Watson's foot got stuck in the Lambeau Field turf, and his ankle was rolled up. He left the game with what looked like a gruesome injury and did not return.
However, the news is not all bad, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
"Sources: Packers WR Christian Watson has a high-ankle sprain, but I'm told it's a mild one, and he is 'unlikely' to land on IR," Schultz posted to X, formerly Twitter.
A high-ankle sprain generally costs players four to six weeks. That usually coincides with being placed on injured reserve, which opens up a roster spot for the team.
However, if he does not land on Injured Reserve, that means the Packers expect him to return in a couple of weeks.
That is good news for the oft-injured wideout.
Watson has been crushed by injuries during his first two NFL seasons. He has dealt with knee, hamstring, and concussion issues over the first two years of his career. Now, you can add ankle injury to the growing list of problems.
In his absence, Dontayvion Wicks will likely earn more snaps and targets from suddenly red-hot Jordan Love. Following Watson's injury, Wicks earned more playing time and caught five balls for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Green Bay will look to get back on track this week in Los Angeles against the Rams.
