It was a difficult week in the National Football League.
On the bright side, the 2024 National Football League regular season will kick off in under one week. On the negative side, this means that hundreds of players had to get cut this week in preparation for the new season as rosters had to be trimmed to 53 players.
The Green Bay Packers had to make plenty of tough decisions and one player who ended up finding himself on the chopping block was veteran linebacker Kristian Welch. He spent the 2023 season in Green Bay and appeared in 14 games and had six total tackles and made one start.
Welch was cut by the Packers earlier this week but luckily didn't remain available for long. The Denver Broncos swooped in and signed him, according to the team.
"The Broncos continue to adjust their 53-man roster ahead of Week 1," the Broncos announced. "Denver signed inside linebacker Kristian Welch, the team announced Thursday. The Broncos waived rookie inside linebacker Levelle Bailey in a corresponding move.
"A 6-foot-3, 240-pound player, Welch has appeared in 57 games during his four-year career. After spending 2020-22 with Baltimore, Welch played 14 games for the Packers in 2023. The Iowa product has tallied 27 career tackles. During his career, Welch has played at least 60 percent of the special teams snaps across games in which he has appeared. In 2021, he played a career-high 382 special teams snaps for Baltimore."
He began his National Football League career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 and spent the first three years of his career in town before joining the Packers ahead of the 2023 campaign.
