The Detroit Lions secured their third win of the 2024 campaign in Week 4 over the Seattle Seahawks, and they did so in impressive fashion.
Entering the "Monday Night Football" contest, the Lions hadn't scored more than 26 points in a single game this season, which came in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Lions ended up dropping 42 on the Seahawks in what was easily the team's best offensive performance this season. As if the win couldn't get any better, the Lions finally snapped the winning streak the Seahawks had over them, which was up to six games. Seattle had also won nine out of the last 10 against Detroit.
With their victory, the Lions inched ever closer to the top spot in most of the NFL Power Rankings of experts. Let's see where they sit going into the bye week.
NFL Power Rankings Week 5: Detroit Lions
Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: 3 (+3)
Iyer: "The Lions are maybe getting a little too aggressive with Jared Goff, as their winning identity is more tied to their dominant running game and improving defense. But that formula also allowed Detroit to make a huge winning statement at home vs. Seattle on Monday night before a Week 5 bye."
Nate Davis, USA TODAY: 4 (no change)
Davis: "QB Jared Goff flexed his "Motor City Muscle" with a near-perfect performance against the previously unbeaten 'Hawks – becoming the first quarterback in 46 years to start consecutive games with at least 10 straight completions – as the Lions finally won what's become their now-annual shootout with Seattle."
NFL Nation, ESPN: 4 (+1)
Eric Woodyard, ESPN: "Although the Lions' pass coverage has only allowed four touchdowns this season, Detroit's defense could improve at lowering opponents' total QBR (55.6 through four games), which ranks 22nd in the league. In Week 1, Matthew Stafford completed 34 of 49 passes for 317 yards and a touchdown. Baker Mayfield went 12-for-19 with a TD in Week 2, while Geno Smith went 38-of-56 for 395 yards and a touchdown on Monday. Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said they "plan on improving every week," which they'll have to do after surrendering 29 points against Seattle."
Bleacher Report: 4 (no change)
Bleacher Report: "Joking aside, the Lions put on a show offensively in Week 4—the Lions tallied almost 400 yards of offense against Seattle, didn't turn the ball over and averaged over eight yards a play. However, there was cause for at least some concern, even in the win. Detroit's defense allowed over 500 yards of offense, including 395 passing yards from Geno Smith. So while the Lions got a marquee win of sorts, the Detroit defense has some work to do on the team's off week."
Jeremy Cluff, Arizona Republic: 3 (+1)
Cluff: "Jared Goff went 18-for-18 in the win over the Seahawks. Yes, he completed every one of his pass attempts."
