The Denver Broncos are just days away from ushering in a new era, the Bo Nix era, to be exact. Of course, that will be the talk of the 2024 season for the team, but there will be plenty to follow.
Sean Payton is in his second year as the team's head coach and this team should look much more like what he envisioned when he took the job than what we saw in 2023. How will that play into a team looking to pick itself up off the mat after missing the playoffs in eight straight seasons?
As we help set the table for the 2024 NFL season, these storylines will be the ones to follow with the Broncos this season.
Denver Broncos top storylines for the 2024 season
What version of Javonte Williams will the Broncos get?
Javonte Williams was just not effective in 2023, but he can be cut some slack as he was recovering from a horrendous knee injury the year before. However, he will have to be much better in 2024.
If the Broncos can get a rushing attack led by Williams to get going, they could have a dangerous offense in 2024.
Safety position
After releasing both Justin Simmons and Caden Sterns this offseason (and not re-signing Kareem Jackson), the Broncos just don't have enough at the safety position, at least not in my mind.
Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke are going to have to play big and JL Skinner has a big chance to make some plays for the team. But it's a spot you can expect opposing teams to look to exploit this coming year.
Do the Broncos have enough pass rush to scare opponents?
The Broncos kept just four edge rushers on the 53-man roster, but there is a chance that third-round pick Jonah Elliss could be special.
The Broncos have lacked a dominant pass-rusher since the days of Von Miller, so this is a spot where they need a player, or two, to step up.
Cornerback No. 2
The Broncos have Pat Surtain at one cornerback spot, but the best way to avoid him is just to target the other guy. Riley Moss, who won the job rather easily this summer, will be that guy. He is going to be tested... will he be up to the task?
Bo Nix
Bo Nix will be the guy the media and fanbase discuss before and after every game this season. Ideally, this will be a season of learning for the young signal-caller, but the Broncos want to find success as well.
Nix looked terrific in the preseason but how will that carry over into the regular season? He will be the first rookie to start for the team in Week 1 since John Elway in 1983, so there is a ton of excitement surrounding him.
