The writing is on the wall for Dak Prescott after CeeDee Lamb gets massive extension image

After a lengthy holdout, the Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb have agreed on a four-year, $136 million extension, making him the second-highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The extension also includes a $38 million signing bonus, which is the highest for a receiver in NFL history.

This is massive for Dallas, who now have one of the best receivers in football who is coming off a historically great season under contract for the foreseeable future. It does pose a question, though- what’s next for Dak Prescott?

The veteran quarterback is still without an extension and is playing on the final year of his contract in Dallas, and the Cowboys can’t use the franchise tag on him, nor can they trade him. A deal with Lamb getting done before a deal with Dak is somewhat telling that the Cowboys may be willing to let their quarterback test the market and potentially sign elsewhere while they turn to the draft to find their next franchise quarterback.

We saw something similar in Minnesota with the Vikings. Instead of Minnesota locking down Kirk Cousins, they let him walk in free agency and made Justin Jefferson the highest-paid wide receiver in history and drafted J.J. McCarthy. Dallas could be heading down a similar road.
