Bears veteran on 'chopping block' after failing to win competition

There's a lot to like about this Chicago Bears team but they will have to make some changes in the near future.

Chicago has finished its preseason schedule and its next football game will be Week 1 regular season action against the Tennessee Titans on September 8th. Before the Bears take the field again, though, they will have to make some tough choices.

The Bears will need to trim down the roster and FanSided's Lior Lampert predicted that veteran quarterback Brett Rypien will end up getting cut in favor of Tyson Bagent.

"Brett Rypien was the only Bears quarterback not to score a touchdown in the blowout victory against the (Kansas City Chiefs)," Lampert said. "Nevertheless, he had a decent outing, but his backup counterparts outplayed him en route to successful scoring drives.

"Rypien went 9-of-13 for 106 scoreless yards, taking zero sacks. His 11.8 yards per completion and 69.2 accuracy rate are solid counting stats. Be that as it may, undrafted second-year pro-Tyson Bagent started the game, suggesting he's higher on the depth chart than the veteran journeyman. The latter did nothing to relinquish that status with his showing in Kansas City. Considering it's unlikely the Bears devote a third roster spot to a signal-caller, Rypien presumably finds himself on the chopping block."

This isn't too surprising but definitely keep an eye on Rypien over the next week or so as the Bears start to make changes.
