The Chicago Bears completely changed their offense this offseason.
Young phenom Caleb Williams was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 National Football League Draft and now will be the team's starting quarterback for years to come. There already is plenty of excitement in Chicago and Williams has looked great in camp.
There's a real chance that the Bears will take a big step forward in 2024 and one of the biggest reasons will be Williams. The Bears seem to be set at starting quarterback, but there have been some questions about the backup job throughout camp.
Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien have been competing in camp for the backup spot. It's unclear what will happen, but Bleacher Report's David Kenyon predicted that Rypien will be cut and Bagent will get the backup spot.
"Chicago Bears: Brett Rypien, QB," Kenyon said. "Same story as Washington; Chicago can lean on two active players at the position. Caleb Williams is the obvious starter, but Tyson Bagent has a firm grasp on the backup job. No competition here, either. As a result, it's most sensible for the Bears to have Austin Reed on the practice squad as that emergency game-day option instead of blocking a roster spot with Brett Rypien."
Rypien has been a serviceable backup quarterback throughout his four-year National Football League career, but it sounds like Bagent could end up being the guy once the 2024 National Football League season kicks off.
