Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews believes a breakout is coming — eventually.
The 29-year-old tight end has had a surprisingly quiet start to the season, raising eyebrows among Ravens fans and fantasy football managers.
Often Lamar Jackson's favorite target, Andrews has just five catches on eight targets for 65 yards this season.
In a Week 3 win over the Cowboys, Andrews not only didn't have a catch, he was on the field for only 33% of snaps. When he was on the field, he was often used as a blocker, as Baltimore went with a run-heavy offensive approach.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Andrews brushed aside his slow start.
"My time will come," Andrews told reporters (via ESPN's Jamison Hensley).
Andrews was in a car accident in August that sidelined him during training camp. It's possible his recovery has affected his performance, though Andrews downplayed it.
"I'm the same player I've always been," Andrews said. "It's just balls haven't come my way."
While Andrews said he wants opportunities to make plays, he is happy to help the team in any way he is asked.
"I’m just worried about execution [and] helping this team win. However I can do that, I will."
The sluggish start for Andrews is certainly worrying for fantasy football managers who likely took Andrews with an early pick. His lack of production so far leads us to believe it is worth benching him for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills and until he has the type of big game that proves his role is still the same.
Of course, with all of the attention being paid to his slow start, and Andrews himself calling for targets, perhaps Week 4 will be his breakout week.
