The Baltimore Ravens nearly landed a high-quality backup quarterback last offseason.
According to current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields, the Baltimore Ravens were one of several teams to inquire about trading for him.
Fields was allowed to give input to the Chicago Bears about where he wanted to land. On the "Not Just Football" podcast, Fields said he didn't want to go to a team that already had a solidified starting quarterback.

That obviously rules out the Ravens, as Fields would have been backing up Lamar Jackson.
It could have been a coup for the Ravens, however. Baltimore's backup quarterback slot has been shaky, with 38-year-old veteran Josh Johnson currently holding the spot. The Ravens also signed former backup Tyler Huntley to their practice squad at the beginning of the season, but Huntley eventually signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Had the Ravens landed Fields, it would have given them one of the strongest quarterback rooms in the NFL, with a solid backup in the event of an injury to Jackson.
Fields landed with the Steelers instead. He was named the starting quarterback because of an injury to Russell Wilson and has played well, throwing for 517 yards with a 73% completion as the Steelers have gone 3-0 to start the season.
Jackson and the Ravens don't face Fields and the Steelers until Week 11.
