Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy is not a fan of how Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is criticized.

Indeed, Jackson takes his fair share of heat, whether it's about his ability as a passer or his playoff record.

On Fox Sports 1's "Speak," McCoy argued that Jackson is held to a different standard than other elite and highly decorated quarterbacks.

"All these other quarterbacks that was Heismans, that was a first-round pick overall, we give them grace, we give them excuses," McCoy said.

McCoy said players like Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen have been given more grace for their mistakes and shortcomings than Jackson.

McCoy's comments came after Fox analyst and former NFL player Mark Schelereth called Jackson "mediocre" in the playoffs and said Jackson has more than enough talent around him to win.

McCoy defended Jackson's playoff record, particularly the AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, noting that Patrick Mahomes is 15-3 in the playoffs, with his only losses coming against Tom Brady (twice) and Joe Burrow.

Jackson is 2-4 in the playoffs with as many touchdowns as interceptions (six).

McCoy, however, compared Jackson's growth to Peyton Manning, who led the NFL in interceptions in his rookie year and went 0-3 in the playoffs over his first five seasons.

"I look at a guy like Peyton Manning, who was phenomenal ... Peyton Manning's first five seasons in the NFL, 0-3 in the playoffs. But we always knew how good he was. Give him a grace period, over and over again, over and over again. Because we knew eventually, it would turn over ... We gave him that type to develop himself and get better and better.

"Lamar Jackson is not even 30 years old yet. He's got a lot of time. He's a quarterback. They don’t keep the same type of attitude with Lamar like they do with other quarterbacks."
