Victor Wembanyama measurements: 'Space Jam' dunk puts height, wingspan of France star into focus image

Victor Wembanyama is still relatively new on the scene, but basketball fans are already running out of adjectives to describe the 20-year-old phenom.

The 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year put his otherworldly abilities on display Saturday as he scored a game-high 19 points in his Olympic debut, leading France to a come-from-behind victory over Brazil. And while Wembanyama got seven field goals in the game, one stands out from the rest.

Late in the first half, Wembanyama electrified the home crowd with a dunk that only he is capable of finishing. Wembanyama used his length to dunk over the Brazil defense — and the photo of his outstretched arm is drawing parallels to Michael Jordan's final dunk in "Space Jam."

With his Olympic debut in the books, have a look at the absurdity of Wembanyama's dunk and the measurements that allow him to do what seemingly no one else does.

After receiving the ball outside of the right block, Wembanyama stunned Brazil's defense by taking two dribbles into the lane and rising up for a left-handed dunk from outside the restricted circle, which is about four feet from the rim.

During the broadcast, analyst Dwyane Wade likened the dunk to "Space Jam," and a still frame of the finish bears a striking resemblance to Jordan's game-winning dunk in the 1996 motion picture.

This isn't the first time Wembanyama has done something to evoke comparisons to "Space Jam," nor is it the first time he's completed an off-hand dunk from outside of the restricted circle.

Still, the element of surprise is there each time he pulls off such a feat.
