Jeff Bezos’ biggest competitor to buy the Boston Celtics, John Henry and the Fenway Sports group, are dropping out of the race to buy the team, per Tony Massarotti. Fans were ecstatic in the comments after hearing the news.

John Henry is the primary owner of the Liverpool Football Club, the Boston Red Sox, the Pittsburgh Penguins, The Boston Globe, and co-owner of RFK Racing. It was rumored that John Henry was a frontrunner to buy the Celtics, and fans were not too happy about that.

With the prime example being the Boston Red Sox, Henry is notorious for not being a big spender on his teams. He used to be for the Sox, as he was the owner for all four World Series wins this century. These past few years, however, Henry has become stingy, not trading or signing anyone huge, and letting go of players who were worth their weight in gold because he didn’t want to pay them.

Fans have been more excited about Bezos becoming the potential owner, as he has much more money than Henry, and he definitely would shell a lot of money into the team, and possibly give them a new arena.
