The Golden State Warriors have made it official that they will use a retro look for their alternative jerseys this upcoming season. Last week, a leaked version of these Warriors uniforms was rumored to be their City Editions for 2024-25.
The team's X account is calling them Classic Edition uniforms. The announcement notes that they are inspired by "the Philadelphia Warriors era" and "pay tribute to the original jersey design."
The Warriors won their first championship in franchise history while in Philadelphia and their seventh title while rocking an alternative version of these classic uniforms. Golden State hopes bringing this look back will help inject some championship mojo into the locker room.
"From day one, our foundation has always been our legacy. In Philadelphia, Jackie Moore set us up for an era of progress. Embracing the potential, knowing great leads to even greater," said the Warriors in a video narrated by Chris Mullin.
The Warriors resided in Philadelphia from 1946-1962 before heading to the Bay Area. They won two NBA titles in Philadelphia and have added five more to their count in Golden State.
"From speed to style, Warriors stay before their time. We set the tone; we write our story. Warriors are often mimicked but never matched, and we always return to our foundation: embracing risk, forged from grit and armed with determination. To champion the games to come and to uphold our legacy," added Mullin.
While Stephen Curry is still on the roster, the Warriors are entering a new era without Klay Thompson. The two have been joined at the hip for much of their careers, and with Thompson now in Dallas, Curry will have to carry even more weight on his shoulders for Golden State to make it back to the promised land. Maybe these uniforms can help.
