The Dallas Mavericks and Klay Thompson are bullish when it comes to their new relationship. Both sides see it as a partnership that could ultimately result in a championship.
Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and Jason Kidd have all spoke glowingly about Thompson fit with the team, and the former Golden State Warrior has echoed their excitement.
“New team, new setting, new environment, it feels like transferring schools. It feels really good, and it is a feeling you want to embrace because it is so rare to get those butterflies,” said Thompson.
The nervous feeling is likely due to the fact that this might be the best chance Thompson has had to win a championship in several years. The Mavericks were close without him, and with him the team feels they have everything they need to finish the job.
“That means a lot that they really believe those things because I do too, and I am so excited to get to work. I love this team, and being around these guys for the last eight or nine days has been amazing. I think we have all the ingredients for a championship,” said Thompson.
Thompson is an elite floor spacer with a great locker room presence. Paring him with Doncic and Irving will benefit all parties involved.
“I am here to give out my knowledge and be a leader and, above all, try to win as many games as possible. The numbers and the individual stuff are cool, but I was so attracted to the Mavericks because of the chance to win,” said Thompson.
