Klay Thompson might prove to be the best pickup of the offseason thanks to his fit with the Dallas Mavericks. He is exactly what the team was missing, and Dallas has the player to maximize his skill set.
"I think my game compliments the roster very well, especially from a perimeter scoring aspect. I think I will help space the floor for guys like Kyrie and Luka to do their thing, and just being here this week and playing with our team, building chemistry with our big guys and our guards, giving our offense kind of a whole new dimension," said Thompson.
The former Golden State Warrior has dealt with injuries and failed to average over 20 points per game last season for the first time in ten years. Thompson being an aging player drove down his market value allowing the Mavericks to snatch up a player they desperately need in order to take the next step and win a championship.
Luka Doncic will make the game easy for the sharpshooter. Doncic is the type of player that draws so much attention from a defense and has the unique passing ability to set Thompson up consistently with wide open looks.
"Just being able to play with Luka the last few days, his ability in the pick and roll is maybe the best I have ever seen, and it will be fun playing with him in those sets because he draws so much attention and gets so many open looks from the perimeter. I'll be there to knock them down," said Thompson.
The Mavericks have high expectations for themselves entering the 2024-25 season, and Thompson's presence will help Doncic and Irving tremendously. Defenders will not be able to sag off into the paint and this could truly be one of the most successful symbiotic relationships in the NBA.
