The two greatest Dallas Mavericks of all time will team up during Goran Dragic’s Farewell Game. Luka Doncic selected Dirk Nowitzki in the draft yesterday, and his team will face the team put together by Dragic.

They shared the court together during the 2018-19 NBA season. It was Nowitzki’s last year as a pro and Doncic’s first.

The Mavericks’ all-time leading scorer was past his prime when a young Doncic came to town. They only played together for that one season, but that did not stop them from building a relationship off the court.

“I am really proud of how he developed. My role with him is we are friends, we are cool, and when I am in town, we go to dinners. Mentor would be a little strong because he doesn’t really need me,” said Nowitzki on the All the Smoke podcast.

“He plays like a 32-year-old veteran with how he reads the game, with how he carries himself on the court. I wish I could say I helped him and talked to him about it, but the guy has been a pro since he was like 11 years old,” said Nowitzki.

It seems the 2011 Finals MVP will not actually get minutes on the court, but he will most certainly be rooting on the current Dallas superstar from the bench. Nowitzki is well past his dominant playing days, and there will be some stiff competition on the court, including two players who have won five out of the last six NBA MVP Awards: Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The farewell game for Dragic is a charity event, and we would not want to see an injury to the 46-year-old seven-footer. The game is still sure to be one basketball fans do not want to miss, and the Dallas greats will likely share some great moments together during the event.

The game starts at 2 PM EST on the NBA App.
