While the Boston Red Sox are gearing up for their series finale against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park, they've announced a number of roster moves.
On Sunday, Boston placed both second baseman Vaughn Grissom (right hamstring strain) and infielder Romy Gonzalez (left hamstring strain) on the 10-day injured list. Gonzalez's placement is retroactive to May 31.
To fill their roster spots, the Red Sox recalled infielder Bobby Dalbec and selected infielder Jamie Westbrook from Triple-A Worcester.
Garrett Whitlock was also transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Grissom has hit just .148 with a .367 OPS in his 23 games this season. Gonzalez has hit .257 with a .651 OPS in his 17 games.
Dalbec has been back and forth between the major-league roster and Triple-A this season, and he's been considerably worse in the MLB. With Boston, he's hit .132 with a .377 OPS in 22 games, and with Worcester, he's hitting .245 with an .850 OPS and eight home runs.
Westbrook is 28 years old and has never reached the bigs. In 49 games so far this year in Triple-A, he's hitting .267 with an .801 OPS. He's also played first base, second base, third base and right field, allowing him to fill in pretty well for Gonzalez as a utility player.
