The Boston Red Sox have been dealing with injuries all season, and now a second starting pitcher is done for the year.
According to MLB.com's Ian Browne, right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock is undergoing an internal bracing procedure today on his injured UCL.
This is the same procedure that Lucas Giolito had after suffering a UCL injury before the season started, and while it will end Whitlock's season, it's a better timeline than having Tommy John surgery.
Whitlock should be ready for the 2025 season barring any complications or setbacks, but the alternative would've cost him a good chunk of next year.
The 27-year-old finishes his 2024 campaign with a 1.96 ERA, 1.145 WHIP and an 8.3 K/9 over his four starts.
