After the Boston Red Sox took the series opener against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night, the two teams met again on Tuesday night with Alex Cora's team earning a 6-5 victory.
Boston's offense was all right in this one, totaling six runs on just seven hits and five walks while striking out seven times. Masataka Yoshida (2-for-5) drove in three runs on a two-RBI single and a solo home run while David Hamilton (1-for-4) and Ceddanne Rafaela (1-for-3 with a walk) both drove in a run each. Dom Smith (1-for-3) also scored on a wild pitch.
The Red Sox's arms weren't great, but they also weren't horrendous. Brayan Bello got the start and allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in 4 2/3 innings. Brennan Bernardino got them out of the fifth inning on just one pitch. Zack Kelly followed with a clean inning. Cam Booser and Luis Garcia each gave up a run to allow the Royals to get back within one run, but Kenley Jansen recorded the four-out save to lock it down.
This win improved Boston's record to 61-51 overall and 34-23 at Fenway Park and also gave the Red Sox the series win. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday with a chance for Cora's squad to secure the sweep.
