Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers is in the middle of arguably the best season of his career thus far.
In 80 games, Devers has hit .289 with a .955 OPS, 21 home runs, 58 RBIs and two stolen bases. He's also flashed the leather quite a bit at the hot corner.
All of that has led to him making the American League All-Star team for the third time in his career. However, he won't be participating in the event, as he'll be giving his injured shoulder some extra rest.
The shoulder is something that's bothered Devers all season but hasn't kept him out of action much. Speaking on the "310 to Left" podcast with Alex Speier, Devers provided an update on the injury.
"Thankfully, the shoulder isn't really anything too serious," Devers said through his interpreter. "It's not something that's bothering me too much. And, at the end of the day, I'm the kind of player that it doesn't matter if I have anything bothering me, I just try to go here to the ballpark to give the best of me. I go up there at home plate. I'll make my adjustments where I need to make them so I can be out there to play, but I'm just always gonna be positive no matter what and always give the best of me."
Devers is a gamer, and he's a huge reason why the Red Sox have been able to climb back into a wild-card spot and sit only 5.5 games out of first place in their division.
