Over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox were informed that three of their players (Rafael Devers, Tanner Houck and Jarren Duran) were selected to represent the American League in the All-Star Game.
However, the team told the MLB that Devers won't be in attendance this year, as he plans to give his shoulder injury some extra rest, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. He'll be replaced on the roster by Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg.
Devers has been dealing with a shoulder injury all season, and he even missed games earlier in the year.
Despite that, Devers has hit .296 with a .976 OPS, 21 home runs and 58 RBIs in 78 games and is on pace for one of the best seasons of his career.
If he gets some extra time off and comes back well-rested, he should play a significant factor in Boston making a push toward the postseason.
