The Boston Red Sox have scuffled quite a bit since the All-Star break, dropping from 10 games above .500 to an even 70-70 record with 22 games to go.
One of the few things interesting things to watch for the remainder of this season will be Liam Hendrik's debut with the club after missing most of the season while recovering from Tommy John.
Not only has Hendriks been incredible when he's healthy, but he's also one of the most entertaining pitchers to watch in baseball today.
In a recent "All-Access" video produced for the Red Sox's YouTube channel, the 35-year-old had an amazing way to describe his intensity on the mound.
"It's called 'White Line Fever,' that's what the Aussies call it," Hendriks said. "As soon as you cross that white line, you're a different animal because that's what I had to do to be able to survive in this game. I love being able to joke around and make fun of people off the field. And, on the field, I want to rip your head off, and I want to beat you, and I want your family to be embarrassed of you."
Hendriks is nearing his return to the big league mound for the first time since early 2023. He's made five appearances in Boston's system so far (three for Triple-A Worcester and two for Double-A Portland). So far, he's tossed five innings and given up three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five.
While he may not be able to help much in 2024, the Red Sox signed him to a two-year deal, so he might be a key piece of their bullpen in 2025.
