The Boston Red Sox haven't gotten the best efforts from their pitching staff over the last few weeks, and their bullpen has made games feel unwinnable if the score is close late.
However, the Red Sox should be getting some help there soon. Not only has Liam Hendriks started his rehab assignment in Triple-A Worcester, but right-handed reliever Justin Slaten is set to throw his final bullpen session (an up-and-down) on Monday, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.
If things go well during the session, Browne stated that the Red Sox will likely send him on a brief rehab assignment before he returns to action with the big league club.
The 26-year-old had been one of Boston's best this season, posting a 3.38 ERA (2.44 FIP) and a 1.031 WHIP while striking out 45 batters in his 42 2/3 innings over 31 appearances.
If Slaten is healthy and returns to form, he'll be a huge piece for the Red Sox over the final month or so of the regular season, as they look to try to make a push at a Wild Card spot in a tight American League.
