The Boston Red Sox have been playing some of their worst baseball of the season over the last week, losing five games in a row and dropping back to .500.
With 22 games to go in their 2024 regular season, the Red Sox will host the Chicago White Sox for a three-game series over the weekend, and the home team can't lose this one.
Not only would losing this series to the White Sox be the final nail in Boston's proverbial coffin, but they would also lose the season series with them which would be an utter embarrassment.
Through 141 games in 2024, Chicago owns a 32-109 record, and if they keep up their current pace they'll finish with the worst record of any team in MLB history with a 162-game season. The Detroit Tigers currently hold the record when they finished the 2003 season 43-119.
Boston dropping a season series against a team that will literally finish the year as one of the worst teams in the history of the sport is unacceptable, and they can't let it happen. And, it will be even worse if wins against the Red Sox are what keep them from having the worst record ever.
