New York Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu is expected to be the starter when he returns from the injured list.

Currently in the middle of a rehab assignment in Double-A Somerset, LeMahieu is expected to play through the weekend as he works his way back from a non-displaced fracture in his right foot.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Monday that LeMahieu will be the regular third baseman for the Yankees upon his return from the IL.

Though this isn't much of a surprise, it was an interesting question considering what the Yankees have been getting from Oswaldo Cabrera. He started off the season hot slashing .256/.294/.383 with four home runs, five doubles and 20 RBI.

The Yankees also have Jon Berti taking reps at third base, but his role is mostly a depth one and not meant to be the everyday starter.

The Yankees might ease LeMahieu into the starting role considering how long it's taken him to get back, but the role will be his upon return.
