The Arizona Diamondbacks have performed quite well in their quest to defend their National League pennant from last October.
They currently have control of the second National League Wild Card spot and have even closed the gap in the NL West with the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
They will be an interesting team to watch in the offseason, as third baseman Eugenio Suarez has a club option that could be declined. This could put them in the market for a third baseman.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com listed them as a potential fit for Alex Bregman.
Bregman got off to a very slow start this season. While the Astros were scuffling, he was hitting just .206 with four home runs and a poor .589 OPS.
However, he has since found his stroke again. And with Suarez hitting just .229, it is possible that Arizona could decline his club option and pivot to Bregman instead.
Bregman has been a postseason hero for the Astros in years past, and Arizona would benefit from having a veteran presence in their lineup with a young roster.
The 30-year-old slugger and two-time World Series champion is hitting .261 with 19 home runs, 59 RBI, and a .763 OPS this season. He's turned things around after a slow start and would be a great fit in Arizona as they try to sustain their recent success.
We'll see if Arizona is in the market for him this coming winter.
