The Chicago Cubs have begun to struggle in recent weeks. The team is now just 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two contests.
To make matters worse, they have dropped into a second-place tie in the National League Central with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Their postseason chances are very slim, and at the end of the 2024 season, they may be saying goodbye to certain players, including a fan favorite.
Zachary Rotman of FanSided predicted that right-hander Kyle Hendricks will leave the team this offseason.
"Kyle Hendricks means a lot to Cubs fans. He's the last remaining member of the 2016 team still with the organization," Rotman wrote. "He deserves all of the praise he can possibly get, but let's be honest. He has to be done in Chicago."
The veteran right-hander has not had a good season. In 27 appearances, 22 of which have been starts, the 34-year-old is 4-11 with a 6.25 ERA.
As such, it is very likely that Hendricks' days with the North Siders are numbered. He played a key role in the team breaking their curse in 2016, but just hasn't been himself in recent years.
The 34-year-old certainly had a good run in Chicago if this is ultimately the end of his time with the team. For his career, he owns a 97-80 record and a 3.69 ERA across 274 appearances.
Hendricks is obviously a fan favorite in Chicago, having contributed heavily to their rise to prominence in the late 2010s, but it's clear that he may not have much left in the tank after this season.
It remains to be seen what will happen with the veteran right-hander, but it appears his time with the Cubs is coming to an end.
