The Boston Red Sox are set to take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park for their final game of the 2024 season.
However, before the matchup, Boston announced their last roster move of the year, as they optioned left-handed pitcher Zach Penrod and called up right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester.
Penrod, 27, is currently ranked at No. 19 in Boston's organization by SoxProspects. He made seven appearances out of the bullpen for the Red Sox over the last month, allowing one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out three batters over four innings.
Priester, 24, will be Boston's starter on Sunday afternoon. The Red Sox acquired him in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates this year for infield prospect Nick Yorke. In nine starts for Triple-A Worcester, he's posted a 5.40 ERA and a 1.242 WHIP while striking out 42 batters over 38 1/3 innings.
Both could be big parts of Boston's plans for the 2025 season and beyond.
