Less than a week ago, the Boston Red Sox placed closer Kenley Jansen on the injured list with a shoulder injury that he had tried to pitch through.

The injury ended Jansen's season with a few games left to go for Boston, who was all but guaranteed to miss the postseason at the time.

Not long after Jansen was placed on injured reserve, Red Sox manager Alex Cora told members of the media that the pitcher left the club for the rest of the season.

This was a move that's reportedly rubbed some players the wrong way.

In a post released early Sunday morning, MassLive's Sean McAdam noted that unhappiness from Jansen's teammates.

"Multiple players, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity, registered their disappointment over Jansen’s early departure, though one added: “I can’t say I’m too surprised.” Jansen was known to be somewhat aloof during his time with the Sox, at times unsure of some teammates’ names.”

McAdam also mentioned that one player said he would pitch in the first game of the doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins last Sunday and then he'd be done. That's exactly what happened.

On Saturday, Rafael Devers, Lucas Giolito, Rob Refnsyder, Brennan Bernardino, Garrett Whitlock and David Hamilton, who are on the injured list, were in the clubhouse, according to McAdam.

In 2024, Jansen appeared in 54 games, posting a 3.29 ERA and a 1.061 WHIP while striking out 62 batters and converting 27 saves. With his contract expiring, he's likely thrown his last pitch in a Red Sox uniform.

UPDATE: Cora told The Boston Globe's Alex Speier that he told Jansen to go home and if that anyone is upset with the closer, they should talk to him.
