The Boston Red Sox are preparing for an important offseason after a disappointing year that saw them miss the postseason for the third time in as many years.

As Boston looks to build their 2025 roster, they'll have many decisions to make and clear needs to address, including rotation help and another right-handed bat.

However, a smaller role that the Red Sox should look to fill that could have a huge impact on the season is left-handed bullpen arms.

In 2024, Boston tried Brennan Bernardino, Cam Booser, Bailey Horn, Joely Rodriguez, Zach Penrod and Joe Jacques as their lefty relievers with mixed results.

Bernardino was great in 2023, but fell off in 2024 down the stretch. Booser was solid and could help, but he's 32 and that was his first since in the majors, so he could see some regression.

The Red Sox should try and make the role a priority this offseason, and it's something that's being talked about, as MassLive's Chris Cotillo said on a recent episode of his "Fenway Rundown" podcast that there's been talk that Boston wants to add a "high-octane" left reliever.

Cotillo floated out Tanner Scott, who posted a 1.75 ERA, 1.125 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 while earning All-Star honors, as an option.

Boston could also hope a guy like A.J. Minter bounces back and is able to stay healthy after multiple IL stints in 2024.
