The Boston Red Sox made a splash trade leading up to the 2021 MLB trade deadline, acquiring Kyle Schwarber from the Washington Nationals for right-handed pitching prospect Aldo Ramirez.
When Schwarber returned from a hamstring strain, he helped Boston make a run to the ALCS where they eventually lost to the Houston Astros.
In total, Schwarber played just over 50 games (including the postseason) for the Red Sox, but he made his presence felt, and he was impacted by the team and fans during his short time with the club.
“There are good memories here," Schwarber said (via. The Boston Globe). "Obviously, the time was very short, but [it] felt like you were able to kind of put your name down, a place where they kind of grabbed onto me a little bit and respected that, and I’ve got respect for these fans and the organization. We had a good time here.”
Many questioned why Boston allowed Schwarber to leave in 2022 when he signed a four-year $79 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. And, even though he hasn't been the best statistical hitter in baseball since his departure, Red Sox fans were probably questioning the decision again when he hit two home runs against his former team on Tuesday.
