The Boston Red Sox failed to make the postseason for the third year in a row, which means some changes have to be made.
However, with manager Alex Cora signing an extension in the middle of the 2024 season, he's not going anywhere this offseason no matter the result.
On Wednesday, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reported that the Red Sox are parting ways with first base/infield coach Andy Fox, bullpen coach Kevin Walker, assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz, mental skills coach Rey Fuentes, trainer Ben Chadwick, and bullpen catcher Mani Martinez.
Fox has been with the organization since 2011 but served as first base/infield coach for just one season.
Walker joined the Red Sox' system in 2008, moving from Lowell all the way to Boston. He serve as bullpen coach since 2020.
Ortiz has been the team's assistant hitting coach for the last three seasons after playing in the MLB, including for the Red Sox.
Chadwick joined the organization in 2014 and spent just two years at the big league level.
Martinez has been with the club the longest out of this group, joining back in 2005, and spent more than a decade as the team's bullpen catcher.
While assistant coaches don't always get the most attention in baseball, it will be interesting to see who Boston brings in to fill these roles, especially considering a former Red Sox first baseman/designated hitter is looking for a job.
