There was a lot more on the line than bragging rights at the 2023 PGA Championship

The winner of this year's second major championship — which was held at Oak Hill Country Club outside Rochester, N.Y. — would not only take home the coveted Wanamaker Trophy, but also several million dollars. But not only the first-place golfer would come away with a massive payday: Each of the first-, second- and third-place finishers would earn over a million dollars.

The biggest winner from this year's event was Brooks Koepka, who won the tournament for a third time. He held off Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland for the victory and the top prize.

2023 PGA Tour's biggest purses, winner's shares

While it still pays to win the PGA Championship, it is no longer among the highest-paying events on the PGA Tour. Indeed, it has been passed by several non-major tournaments under the tour's new pay structure, which was introduced to combat defections to LIV Golf.
