Brooks Koepka's career choice is paying off quite nicely for him.

The sport of golf, it seems, had always tried to reward silence, from the fans to its biggest stars. Rivalries on the course weren't like other sports. Controversy hardly ever appeared.

Then LIV Golf came around and all of that went out the window. No more buddy-buddy.

Koepka — and his big personality — jumped ship and padded his wallet in the process. He fled the PGA Tour for the massive bag of cash that LIV dropped in front of him. The 32-year-old was dealing with injuries and becoming an afterthought in a sport where he was once the No. 1 player in the world for 47 weeks. Koepka took a reported $150 million to join LIV Golf.

This year, he has looked like a major champion. He entered the final round at the Masters Tournament with the lead and had his best chance of winning a green jacket since finishing runner-up to Tiger Woods in 2019. He faded on Sunday and eventually finished runner-up to Jon Rahm.

He didn't make the same mistake when he played in the 2023 PGA Championship six weeks later. He claimed a third Wanamaker Trophy (to go with his two U.S. Open titles) and took home the $3.15 million winner's prize. Despite the payouts being less than what LIV offers, almost winning at Augusta and later winning the PGA at Oak Hill bring a level of prestige of which LIV can only dream.

Brooks Koepka 2023 results

LIV Golf has played six events in 2023, and Koepka has competed in all of them. Since the LIV tour returned in late February, Koepka has won an event in Orlando, but failed to finish in the top 20 at either of the other two contests.

Koepka staved off a challenge from Sebastián Muñoz on the final day in Orlando, finishing one stroke ahead of the Colombian.

Following Koepka's triumph at Orlando, he followed it up with a big performance at the Masters. He led on the final day but melted down and finished runner-up to Jon Rahm.

Three more LIV events were played after Augusta, but then came Koepka's 2023 highlight, a win in the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, N.Y., outside Rochester. Koepka gave LIV Golf its first major win and put himself back on top of the golf world.
