Nishant, a two-time national champion, is making his Olympic debut at the age of 22. He secured his place in the quarter-finals by edging out the seventh-seeded Ecuadorian boxer. Now, he is just one win away from securing a medal.

Can Nishant Dev win a medal for India?

In boxing, two bronze medals are awarded, meaning the two losing semi-finalists each receive a bronze. India’s boxing contingent has only two representatives left in the quarter-finals at Paris 2024: Nishant Dev and Lovlina Borgohain.

If Nishant Dev wins against Marco Verde, he will become the fourth Indian boxer to win a medal at the Summer Games, joining the ranks of Vijender Singh, Mary Kom, and Lovlina Borgohain. Vijender Singh remains the only Indian male boxer to have won a medal at the Olympics.

Nishant Dev’s quarter-final bout is crucial for Indian boxing. A win would not only secure him a medal but also place him in the annals of Indian sports history.
