India’s batting stalwarts, Virat kohli and Rohit Sharma have made a reputation as the most destructive batters in the world. They are often hailed as the best cricketers of our generation and are idolized by many, including young shooter Manu Bhaker, who recently bagged two bronze medals for India at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Who is Neeraj Chopra’s favourite Indian cricketer?

Unlike many young athletes who have idolized either Virat or Rohit over the years, Neeraj had opted for India’s ace pacer, Jasprit Bumrah as his pick. During an interaction with Indian Express’ Idea Exchange back in December 2023, Neeraj revealed that Indian speedster Bumrah is his favourite bowler and even had some advice for the pacer.

Neeraj stated that he liked Bumrah’s unique action, and that he could bowl even faster if he increased his run-up. He stated this after an assessment with fellow Javelin throwers as they often discuss how they could increase their speed due to the similarities in the two games.

I like Jasprit Bumrah, I find his action unique. I feel he should lengthen his run-up to add more pace. As a javelin thrower, we often discuss how bowlers can increase their pace if they start their run-up from a little further back. I like Bumrah’s style.

Bumrah has been India’s spearhead in the pace attack for quite some time now. The 30-year-old had a terrific campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, winning matches for the Indian team time after time, from dier and unsavable situations.

He was even credited by Virat Kohli for his contributions throughout the tournament during India's trophy celebration and commemoration at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Neeraj further revealed that the first cricket match that he witnessed live was the 2023 ODI World Cup Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although India lost that game by six wickets, Neeraj stated they had worked hard and it had simply not been their day.

The Olympic champion also praised Australia for their mentality in the Final as they defeated the favourites in their own backyard despite being undefeated the entire tournament.
