Lakshya Sen showed immense promise throughout the badminton event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, however, the young shuttler missed out on a historic Olympic medal on Monday evening. The 22-year-old was beaten by Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match. 

Lakshya had been unstoppable throughout the competition, winning all his games until the semi-final, where he faced Viktor Alexsen of Denmark.

Although Lakshya lost the semi-final, he put up a great fight against the Dane before losing out to the Malaysian in the bronze medal match. 

Despite the failure, Lakshya has a promising future and is expected to big a medal hope in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. India still awaits their first medal in the men’s badminton category at the Olympics.

How did Lakshya play against Zii Jia?

Lakshya managed to start the game on the front foot by winning the first game 21-13 against Zii Jia. However, the Malaysian mounted an astonishing comeback against the 22-year-old to win the final two games 21-16 and 21-10.

When will India next compete in the Paris Olympics?

The reigning World and Olympic champion, Neeraj Chopra is set to feature in the qualifying of the men’s Javelin throw on August 6. Following Neeraj’s qualifying event the Indian hockey team will be up against the Germans in the semi-final of the competition.
