A new T20 international record was broken in a T20 World Cup qualifier match between Samoa and Vanuatu, when Darius Visser smashed 39 runs off a single over, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The match was played as a part of the qualifier set of matches that would determine teams from the East Asia-Pacific nations that could qualify to play in the T20 World Cup 2026, that is set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Batting first, Samoa put up 174 runs on board, in their 20 overs, beating Vanuatu by 10 runs, after restricting them to 164/9 in 20 overs.

Among the 174 runs that Samoa had scored, Darius Visser smashed 132 runs off just 62, as he also went to finish with bowling figures of 1/32 in his 4 overs, for which he was awarded the Player of the Match.

How did Samoa's Darius Visser score 39 runs in an over in the T20 World Cup qualifier match?

Vanuatu pacer Nalin Napko was at the end of Darius Visser's brutal hitting in the 15th over of the first innings, in the T20 World Cup qualifier match.

Visser smashed six sixes in an over, with the help of three no-balls in the over, as Samoa went on to record 39 runs in the over, which is the most runs recorded by a team in T20 international history.

While his team recorded 39 runs in the over, 36 runs was added to his tally, with his six sixes, equalizing Yuvraj Singh's record of hitting six sixes in the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007 match against England.
