The inaugural edition of the Madhya Pradesh League 2024 got underway on Saturday at the Gwalior International Cricket Stadium. The second and third matches were played on Sunday, in a double-header day of MPL 2024.

Bhopal Leopards and Jabalpur Lions played their first match in the day game. Rajat Patidar's Malwa Panthers were back in action, as they faced Rewa Jaguars in the second game of the double-header Sunday.

What happened in the match between Jabalpur Lions and Bhopal Leopards?

Batting first, Leopards posted a total of 173 runs for the loss of six wickets, courtesy of a late flourish by Arshad Khan (32 off 12) and Kamal Tripathi (34 off 17). Mihir Hirwani was the pick of the bowlers, for his 2/33. 

While chasing, Lions' skipper Arpit Gaud played a match-winning knock of 77, despite his side losing wickets at the other end. Gaud hit six boundaries and as many sixes, to guide his team to their first-ever win in the tournament. The Jabalpur-based outfit chased the 174-run target, with 22 balls to spare.

What happened in the match between Rewa Jaguars and Malwa Panthers?

In the second match on Sunday, June 17, Rajat Patidar's Panthers locked horns against Rewa Jaguars. The Jaguars emerged victorious by a 65-run margin.

Batting first, the Rewa-based side posted a mammoth total of 196. the Jaguars posted a handsome 150-run opening-stand, in just 15 overs. Openers Prithviraj Tomar (77) and Himanshu Mantri's (68) dismantled the opposition bowling unit. However, Harshvardhan pulled things back for the Panthers, picking two wickets at the death.

In response, the Panthers were restricted to 131 runs, with Shivam Shukla picking a 3-fer, and experienced-campaigner Kulwant Khejroliya bagging two wickets for the Jaguars. Panthers' skipper Rajat Patidar was dismissed for 10 runs.

What next in the Madhya Pradesh League 2024?

Bhopal Leopards will face Gwalior Cheetahs in the fourth match of MPL 2024. Venkatesh Iyer would hope to lead his side to a win, after losing against Panthers on Saturday.
