Team India led by captain Rohit Sharma were recently crowned the T20 World Cup 2024 champions in Barbados, as they scripted a record by becoming the first team to ever to remain unbeaten in the tournament's history.

Hugh Jackman, the popular actor from Australia, who is known to be an avid cricket fan, was interviewed during a promotional event for his upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine movie, alongside Ryan Reynolds.

It was at this event where he named his favourite cricket player from India to be none other than the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, himself. He had huge praises for the cricketer, popularly known as "Hitman" for his aggressive style of batting.

Jackman will be once again reprising the role of the popular X-Men and Marvel character, Wolverine, after he returns from a relatively long hiatus.

Why did Hugh Jackman name Rohit Sharma as his favourite Indian cricketer?

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were interviewed by the duo of Dhruv and Shyam, otherwise known as "Funcho" on YouTube, where they have fan following of about 3.87 million subscribers, ahead of the release of the Deadpool 3 film.

It was during this interview that the Wolverine actor was asked to name his favourite cricketer from India, when he took Rohit Sharma's name and called him a "beast". 

Jackman replied: "Right now? Rohit [Sharma]. You took the World Cup home! I'm glad. But honestly, he was a beast!"

Reynolds, who will play the lead role in the upcoming film, who is an American actor, was surprised by the enthusiastic reactions to the answer, excitedly said: "This is amazing!"

The Indian team also celebrated their World Cup victory with the fans back home, through an open-bus parade in Mumbai, which was attended by a huge pool of passionate fans, lining up the streets and at the Wankhede Stadium, where the team were facilitated by a 125 Cr cheque by the BCCI.

The 'Deadpool and Wolverine' film starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, directed by Shawn Levy is all set to hit the theatres later this month, on July 26, 2024.
