India beat South Africa on June 29 to win their second T20 World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led side brought an end to an 11-year-long trophy drought as they were crowned world champions.

The T20 World Cup 2024 win is India's second triumph since they won the inaugural edition in 2007. After their victory in South Africa, the MS Dhoni-led Indian team had paraded through the streets in Mumbai to celebrate with the fans. 

17 years on and the craze for Indian cricket has only increased in manifolds. The Rohit Sharma-led side are set to celebrate with the Indian crowd once again in Mumbai, on July 4.

Hello and welcome to our Blog where you can follow all the live updates from India's 2024 T20 World Cup victory celebrations in Mumbai. The parade will take place for a distance of approximately 1.8 kilometers, starting from NCPA to Wankhede stadium.

09:45 PM: Team India and Rahul Dravid's staff have walked back to the dressing room, after the pomp and show at the Wankhede today. As Dravid signs off his role, the Indians cried their hearts with joy in the streets of Mumbai, on the homecoming of the T20 World Cup 2024 Champions. 

09:33 PM: As reported, BCCI gifted Rohit Sharma & Co. a prize money of 125 Crore Indian Rupees. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah presented the cheque money to skipper Rohit Sharma.

09:26 PM: Virat Kohli called Jasprit Bumrah as a 'once in a generation' bowler, and how he felt lucky to have Bumrah on his team. Kohli also labelled Bumrah as a 'national treasure', and claimed that he would sign a petition to call him the 'eighth wonder of the world'. Virat also spoke about his main aim to win the country a World Cup, after experiencing at as a youngster in 2011. 

09:19 PM: Skipper Rohit Sharma has addressed his kingdom, Wankhede, in some style! Sharma credited the whole team for turning up throughout the tournament. He called the team a special one. 

This is a special team, I am so lucky to lead this team, Rohit Sharma told Wankhede.

08:53 PM: Team India have finally arrived at the Wankhede Stadium.

07:45 PM: Live visuals show that the bus parade has started. The Indian team is seen at the rooftop of the bus. Hardik Pandya has the trophy in hand.

07:40 PM: The wait continues. It's frustrating but what's interesting is fans are still intact on the marine drive and in the Wankhede stadium as well.

07:20 PM: Meanwhile, an ambulance has been spotted at the marine drive. We hope everyone is okay.

06:50 PM: The Indian is en route to the Wankhede stadium.

06:30 PM: Team India have left the Mumbai airport. After a long wait, we will shortly be seeing the parade.

06:15 PM: Team India's flight UK1845 received a water salute upon arrival at Mumbai airport. The enthusiasm is incredible! Excitement is building for the upcoming celebrations at Marine Drive.

A water salute is a ceremonial event where a vehicle passes under streams of water sprayed by one or more firefighting vehicles. It is used to show respect or appreciation.

06:00 PM: There are distressing scenes at Wankhede Stadium today. The decision to allow free entry has led to some issues. We hope no one has been injured in the chaos.

05:45 PM: The Indian team's open bus is already stuck before reaching NCPA to pick up the players. Here's the scene outside Wankhede Stadium.

05:35 PM: Live visuals show jampacked marine drive waiting for the Indian team depart from the Mumbai Airport. The parade still awaits.

05:25 PM: We are still waiting for the parade to start. The Indian team is yet to march out.

4:44 PM: Fans have arrived in large numbers at the Churchgate station which is close to the Wankhede Stadium, about 1 km away.

4:18 PM: It is currently raining at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the venue where the felicitation ceremony for the Indian team is scheduled to take place.

4:00 PM: Chants for the Indian captain and local Mumbai boy, Rohit Sharma, were heard at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of the victory parade celebrations.

3:33 PM: There are weather forecasts for slight rains around Mumbai, in the next few hours. 

Presently, there are overcast conditions near the areas where the Victory parade will take place.

3:20 PM: Here is the itinerary for the Indian team's evening after they reach Mumbai:

4 PM: Reach Mumbai airport and take the Volvo bus

5 PM: Reach the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) and board the open-top bus

5 - 7 PM: Victory parade on the open-top bus

7 - 7.30 PM: Felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede stadium

3:00 PM: The call sign of the Air Vistara flight that will take the Indian team to Mumbai is UK 1845, which is named after the jersey numbers of Virat Kohli (#18) and Rohit Sharma (#45). 

2:20 PM: Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, who was the Player of the Match in the T20 World Cup Final at Barbados, took a picture with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his PM's residence in New Delhi.

1:45 PM: The bus that will be used by the Indian team for the victory parade celebrations in Mumbai, has reached Marine Drive.

12:45 PM: The meeting between the victorious Indian cricket team and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is over. The Men in Blue will now head to Mumbai where a grand reception awaits them.

12:13 PM: The team has arrived wearing a special 'CHAMPIONS' jersey to meet the PM at his residence 

11:05 AM: Team india have reached the Prime Minister's residence wherein they will now be meeting the PM Narendra Modi after their historic achievement in the West Indies. 

10:09 AM: Videos of Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal dancing upon arrival have surfaced on X. 

10:01 AM: The Bus for the Indian victory parade in Mumbai looks stunning. There's a huge sense of excitement among the Mumbaikars who are eagerly waiting to welcome their champions. 

9:54 AM: The victory procession in Mumbai will be held from 5 PM to 7PM starting from Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium where a felicitation will take place. Fans who can't join the parade can catch the celebrations live on Star Sports Network. 

9:17 AM: The team have arrived at the ITC Maurya hotel in Delhi. They will be cutting a a specially made cake to celebrate their achievement, following which they will be headed to meet the PM. 

9:03 AM: Following their heroics in Barbados on Sunday, the Indian team will now be felicitated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. After meeting the Prime Minister, Rohit and Co. will depart to Mumbai for the open bus parade. 

8:54 AM: The Indian team have arrived to massive welcome at the airport in Delhi. Skipper Rohit Sharma was seen with the trophy as the team arrived. BCCI recently shared a snippet of their travel from Barbados. 

The victors are set to arrive in Delhi at 6 AM and will leave for Mumbai at 9:30 AM.

PM Narendra Modi to give a hero's welcome to the World T20 champions

India rewrote history after their thrilling over South Africa in the ICC men's T20 World Cup Final 2024. It took the Men in Blue 17 years to reclaim the title that they won back 17 years ago in the inaugural T20 World Cup that was held in South Africa. 

The win sent the fans into a nation-wide frenzy on the sub-continent and has been even acknowledged by the Honourable Prime Minister of the Nation. To commemorate the Indian team's achievement, PM Narendra Modi will be welcoming the heroes back home after a long trip back home from the Caribbean.
