Champions Trophy 2017

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 could face a venue change for its final match if India qualifies. The final is currently scheduled for Lahore, Pakistan, but if the Indian government does not lift its ban on playing in Pakistan, the final could be moved to Dubai, as reported by The Telegraph.

This decision would be made only days before the final, adding uncertainty for teams, officials, and fans.

Could the ICC Champions Trophy final be moved to Dubai?

India has not played in Pakistan since 2008, and it’s unlikely that the government will change its stance before the Champions Trophy. If India reaches the final, the match will likely be moved to Dubai.

The tournament is scheduled to run from February 19 to March 9, with the final on March 9. This creates a scenario where both Lahore and Dubai will need to prepare for the final.

Teams and officials may not know the venue until just three days before the match, adding complexity to the tournament’s logistics. If India progresses beyond the group stage, its semi-final and any other knockout matches would also need to be moved.

The UAE, with its stadiums in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, is being considered as a potential backup location. This model was used during the 2023 Asia Cup, where India played all its matches outside Pakistan.

What is Pakistan's stand on hosting?

The Pakistan Cricket Board remains hopeful that all matches, including India’s, will be played in Pakistan. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed confidence in hosting all teams for the Champions Trophy.

"The Indian team should come. We are confident we will host all the teams in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan,” said PCB chairman Naqvi.

However, India’s participation in Pakistan remains doubtful due to ongoing political tensions. While Pakistan hopes to host the entire tournament, the decision will depend on whether India’s ban on playing in Pakistan is lifted.
