Biggest wins in IPL: Listing down the top 10 greatest wins by balls remaining in Indian Premier League history image

The IPL is in its 17th edition, and there have been innumerable memories since inception. There have been some high-scoring encounters, while some have been one-sided, low-scoring ones.

With low-scoring matches, the chasing team has the upper hand throughout the match. There have been memorable games, that have ended in two-digit scores, making it easier for the chasing teams to secure the win.

With Net Run Rate (NRR) being an important aspect in IPL, the chasing teams look to secure the win, as soon as possible. And that, cuts short the duration of the game, as only a few overs are bowled in the run chase. As it goes, the higher the overs remain at the end, the greater margin of increase in the NRR.

A similar scenario occurred in IPL 2024 on April 17, in the Delhi Capitals' game against Gujarat Titans. GT, who played as hosts at the Narendra Modi Stadium, went down to DC, as they chased the 90-run target in under nine overs.

That being said, the trend is not recent at all, with Mumbai Indians chasing a target in under 6 overs in IPL 2008! Excited to know what we're talking about? Read more to find out!

What is the biggest winning margin in IPL history?

On May 16, 2008, Wankhede saw its most memorable nights in IPL history. In what brewed to be one of the fiercest rivalries with time, MI played KKR in a low-scoring match.

After being put into bat, KKR were bundled for 67 runs in under 16 overs. It was a collective effort from MI bowlers, with Shaun Pollock bagging three wickets on the night. The trio of Dwayne Bravo, Rohan Raje, and Dominic Thornely picked two wickets each.

The hosts chased the 68-run target in under six overs - 5.3 overs to be precise. MI's win against KKR with 87 balls to spare, remains the biggest winning margin (in terms of balls remaining) in IPL history. 17 years on, the peculiar record still stands!
