Pakistan have had a rough few months as they were kicked out of the group stages of both the ICC ODI World Cup in 2023 and most recently the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.
A shocking exit after losing their opening two games against host nation USA and arch-rivals India meant that the skipper, Babar Azam was going to be a recipient of immense scrutiny.
To add salt to their wound, arch-rivals India managed to win the cup undefeated, becoming the first team in the history of the competition to do so.

Babar and the team have received unprecedented slander in the last few days, and things might get a whole lot worse for the Pakistani skipper as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi is set to hold a meeting with white-ball coach Gary Kirsten to discuss the possible changes following the T20 World Cup debacle.
Pakistan's prime focus now will be to prepare for the returning ICC Champions Trophy in February 2025 which they will be hosting in their home nation.

Will Babar Azam continue as skipper for Pakistan?
Babar’s position as captain is not in jeopardy yet so far as stated by Naqvi, but considering the agitation that the batter has received for his performances and leadership skills, it might not be long before the chairman or coach reconsiders the inevitable.
Speaking to Geo News, Naqvi said,
There is, however, no decision taken so far related to Babar Azam. I'm only speaking to those former cricketers who are interested in the betterment of Pakistan cricket
Apart from the fans and media, Babar’s leadership skills have also been questioned by former players. Legendary pacer, Wasim Akram has been very critical of the team’s performance in the T20 World Cup and has demanded a complete revamp of the team. According to Akram, the dressing room atmosphere has been ruined by some senior players and requires extensive changes in every aspect.
