After scoring 218, they needed to restrict CSK to 200 or lower in order to overtake their opponents on net run rate and finish in the top four. A stellar last over effort from Yash Dayal sealed the win as he held his nerve despite the first ball going for six.

'One more season' - Ambati Rayudu urges MS Dhoni to play in IPL 2025 as he wants CSK legend to leave as a champion

After the match, many wondered if CSK legend and former captain MS Dhoni had played his final match for the five-time champions, as they were knocked out of this year's tournament. Dhoni's retirement has been a topic of discussion for several seasons now, as he continues to age.

There have been varying opinions on his future, and former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu chipped in with his opinion on Saturday. Speaking on Star Sports, Rayudu said,

MS Dhoni should play one more season. This shouldn't be his last, he cannot leave like this, he should play next season and win the IPL. He's a once in a generation player and once in a generation human being.

Under Dhoni's captaincy, CSK won five IPL titles including the most recent one in 2023. This year, the reins were handed over to opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad. With a mega-auction in the works next year and this year's final at CSK's home ground of the MA Chidambaram Stadium, many were hoping for a fairytale finish for 'Thala' before he signed off, but it is not to be.

Dhoni himself was in fine form with the bat this year, batting down the order as a finisher and scoring 161 runs at a strike rate of 220, including 13 sixes.
