A 30-member Indian athletics contingent led by men's javelin throw defending champion, Neeraj Chopra, will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which begins on July 26.

India has lagged behind in the medal tally when it comes to athletics historically, with just 3 medals. Norman Pritchard had bagged pre-independence India's and Asia's first ever individual medal at the Olympics when he clinched two silvers at the 1900 Paris Games. He won the silver medals in the 200m sprint and 200m hurdles event.
