The Cowboys' defense had an impressive showing vs. the Browns in Week 1, but that changed in a big way in Week 2.

Against the Saints, Dallas allowed 35 points in the first half. In all fairness, New Orleans' offense did come into the matchup in rhythm after a 47-point performance vs. the Panthers in Week 1, but it was more unexpected in Week 2.

Expectations are much higher for Dallas' defense than Carolina's this season, so the first-half explosion for the Saints in Week 2 was a surprising development.

Here are the details to know on the Cowboys' defensive coordinator this season after the rough first half for Dallas' defense vs. the Saints.

Who is the Cowboys' defensive coordinator?

The Cowboys' defensive coordinator in 2024 is Mike Zimmer, who's in his second stint as DC with the organization.

Zimmer, 68 years old, also oversaw the Cowboys' defense from 2000-2006.

In Week 1, Zimmer's defense had a strong performance, allowing 17 points to the Browns in a win while recording two interceptions and six sacks.

However, against the red-hot Saints offense, the Cowboys have looked a lot different. RB Alvin Kamara had three touchdowns in the first half of Sunday's game, continuing his dominance in games vs. Zimmer.

Kamara later added a fourth score against the Cowboys.

Saints QB Derek Carr capped the dominant first-half performance with a rushing touchdown to put Dallas down 35-16.
